Way out on the fringes of contemporary sound sits Bad Sounds, who over the past two years have released many a scintillating twist of psych-pop, funk, fuzzy rock and whatever other genre you can think to describe their bombastic sound. The latest outburst from this Bath-based outfit is the uniquely titled ‘Hot Head Chippenham’. It’s an undeniably fun track that travels from a mix of sing-speak lyrics and chunky beats up to a searing psych chorus and making its way over to jazzy lounge sounds, before finishing on a high of winding guitars and thrashing drums, naturally. Along with the textural and stylistic journey, Bad Sounds also throw out an array of memorable lines, our favourite being, “Slytherin’s back, the Empire’s back, no they didn’t die after the rebel attack.” What a way to describe someone’s temper. - HT
